SCUP 2015 North Central Symposium:
Mission/Vision/Planning Alignment - Your Institution and Your Business Community
April 8, 2015 | University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee | Milwaukee, WI
Fuel driving the engines of higher education institutions is more reliant on ties to industry and business than at any time in the past several decades. The alignment of a campus mission, vision and strategic direction with regional economies is occurring in subtle and overt manners. We observe large research-based institutions, private and public, reaping rewards of industry ties that are in turn affecting the physical nature of planning and facilities. The academic plans of regional higher education institutions, traditionally departmental based, are migrating towards thematic platforms setting the scene for greater integration with local economies. Development of thematic based organizations also has implications on the physical planning of core and satellite campuses. This SCUP Symposium, at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, seeks to inform and create dialogue surrounding the ties of college and university campuses and their regional economies. Conference presentations and tours will address the following:
Administrative and curricular organizational structures revolving around this theme
Facilities which are physical manifestations of academic - industry relationships
Planning initiatives drive by co-dependent interdisciplinary research and business visions
Use tried-and-true strategies and techniques to foster direct regional economic development, industry partnerships, and social impact.
Examine goals for curricular and co-curricular activities resulting from industry partnerships.
Define the relationship between a university and university foundation organizations, specifically the evolution of a research park as it ties to institutional mission.
Identify how state-of-the-art industry needs influence college and departmental decision making.
