Facilities Master Planning: Approach and Process Matters

Master planning is critical to successfully linking future campus development while effectively supporting an institution's mission and strategic objectives. In most cases, the facilities master plan (FMP) is often required as a prerequisite by state governments (or institutional governing boards for private institutions) to request project approval and funding. The approach and process for developing a FMP can vary significantly from one institution to the next. This one-day symposium will compare the different approaches and processes undertaken by two Maryland universities in the development of their FMP, discussing the pros and cons of each (along with lessons learned).

Bowie State University, with assistance from Hord Coplan Macht, Inc., completed their most recent FMP in 2016.
