Old Buildings and New Tricks

Renovation and adaptive reuse of existing buildings for new technologies and teaching styles requires a complete reevaluation of how the building functions. With growing recognition of the need to create spaces that foster community, circulation and the overall zoning of the building must be radically altered. This session looks at the recent renovation of the science facilities at Bowdoin and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The facilities' reorganization and additions promote interaction and informal discussion.

This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-sixth annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–36, in Boston, MA (USA), in July of 2001.
