Singapore Management University--A New University in the City's Heart

Presenter(s): Anthony W. Blackett, Anthony Blackett Associates; Dennis Pieprz, Sasaki Associates; O. Robert Simha, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Convener: Janette S. Blackburn, Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott

Singapore Management University is unique. Planned from scratch, this $1 billion, 15,000-enrollment American-style campus will be located in Singapore's downtown historical museum district. The planning process included the statement of a modern urban business university, a master plan, a major open international urban design and architectural competition, and an implementation strategy. The presentation will dissect the competition and then focus on the lessons learned in planning this highly ambitious and complex project.
This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-sixth annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–36, in Boston, MA (USA), in July of 2001.

Audiocassettes of this and other SCUP–36 sessions are available for purchase here.

Due to our concern for the privacy of members of the face-to-face audiences at SCUP-36, our digital archives of SCUP-36 presentations end at the beginning of the question and answer portion of each session. Whenever we can, we not only provide streaming audio but the slide show or visual presentation used by the presenters, as well.
