Capital Planning: An Innovative Approach

Presenter(s): Harvey H. Kaiser, Harvey H. Kaiser Associates, Inc.; Eva Klein, Eva Klein & Associates, Ltd.
Convener: Kathy Mathis, Middle Tennessee State University

Traditional capital-planning processes are undergoing change to adapt to demands for integration with strategic and financial planning. The backlogs of repairs and renovations for space built in the 1960s and 1970s are a compelling factor in the evaluation and modification of current capital-planning processes. This session suggests a capital-planning process model based on an assessment of innovative approaches implemented by several systems and individual institutions. A case study of recent capital planning that led to the University of North Carolina's $2.5 billion bond issue will be included.
This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-sixth annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–36, in Boston, MA (USA), in July of 2001.

Audiocassettes of this and other SCUP–36 sessions are available for purchase here.

Due to our concern for the privacy of members of the face-to-face audiences at SCUP-36, our digital archives of SCUP-36 presentations end at the beginning of the question and answer portion of each session. Whenever we can, we not only provide streaming audio but the slide show or visual presentation used by the presenters, as well.
