The Truth Behind the Selection Process

Presenter(s): Fran Gast, Rhode Island School of Design; Clinton N. Hewitt, University of Minnesota; Pamela Loeffelman, Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates; Richard Piotrowski, Hartford Department of Public Works
Convener: Richard D. Rush, The Office of Michael Rosenfeld, Inc., Architects

Choosing the right architect-or, more accurately, the right design team-for a specific project entails genuine understanding not only of the purposes of the facility but also of the institution's mission and its vision of itself and its future. Individuals entrusted with the choice must ultimately evaluate a complex matrix of people, facts, and impressions with objectivity and inspiration to get the best project match. Join a panel to discuss best practices that shape selection processes and learn the importance of establishing various planning-project criteria early in the process. Come away with tools to help start that process earlier.
This knowledge resource from SCUP is a concurrent session presented at the Society's thirty-sixth annual, international conference and Expo, SCUP–36, in Boston, MA (USA), in July of 2001.

Audiocassettes of this and other SCUP–36 sessions are available for purchase here.

Due to our concern for the privacy of members of the face-to-face audiences at SCUP-36, our digital archives of SCUP-36 presentations end at the beginning of the question and answer portion of each session. Whenever we can, we not only provide streaming audio but the slide show or visual presentation used by the presenters, as well.
